YWAM Australia, Margaret River
CS, DTS

Hello Friends! Welcome to my blog!
I am so glad you have chosen to read more about the ministry of YWAM / Christian Surfers of Perth, Australia and my role in it. I am currently a “soon-to-be” staff member and am looking for people who would love to stand beside me in my journey with funding and prayer. But first, I’d like to share with you specifics of this incredible mission and the impact your prayer and finances would make.
YWAM is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian, missionary organization founded in 1960. It hosts more than 1,100 ministry bases in over 180 countries training upwards of 25,000 volunteer missionaries annually. It’s purpose is to develop students’ relationship with God and others, help them find God’s purpose for their lives, and empower them to live Christ-live lives no matter their vocation. Their motto is “Know God and Make Him Known”! This is accomplished through DTS (Discipleship Training School), a 6 month program of intense discipleship including a “lecture phase” and “outreach phase”. The 3 month lecture phase builds personal knowledge and relationship with God while the 3 month outreach phase essentially puts into action everything learned. The YWAM base in Perth hosts around 400-500 students in training per quarter (every three months)! The base is like one big home hosting one large faith family among staff and students alike.
As for my part in this YWAM mission... Six months of my year will be dedicated to staffing a Surfers DTS, which intentionally draws and disciples surfers. Though my roles will be numerous, I will walk with the students through each step of the discipleship training journey - living with them, eating with them, and doing everyday life with them. As staff, I will help in student’s growth through “one-on-one” weekly meetings, praying with them, helping them process and cope with all the changes they are experiencing internally. The most beautiful part of DTS is watching each student go through a radical change in their spirit and relationship with God, just as I and my fellow students experienced this year. My passion is to be a part of that change in student’s lives; standing side by side with them, pushing them to move forward in all the trials they face throughout lecture and outreach phases.
Though the preparation and implementation of DTS is the largest part of my staffing responsibilities each year, slower times offer opportunities to participate in other ministries. Christian Education, an organization which provides Biblically based education and teacher training programs to equip those wishing to acquire the skills of Godly teaching, is one such ministry. We also help with ministries such as Homes of Hope which mobilizes teams to partner with economically needy communities to build homes and show God’s love.
My goal is to be a part of YWAM for the next three years. I am taking this goal one step at a time, beginning with faith in raising needed support. I plan to depart from my home base of Florida in December of 2018 beginning a “Jesus loving and living” year! This blog is dedicated to all the adventures and stories that will be lived out in this time. Prepare to see and hear God move through the body of Christ in Perth, Australia - you and me equally a part of the adventure!
